Maternity Session Q & A ’ s

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MATERNITY SESSION?
Normally between 32-36 weeks is best but every mama is different.
If we wait too long we risk that you will be uncomfortable, not feeling your best, and risk missing the window for the session if baby comes a little early if we need to reschedule for any reason (normally weather for outdoor sessions). If it’s early on in your pregnancy we miss the best timing to show off your bump and the emotions as you get closer and closer to meeting your baby.
Though in some circumstances, you may need to do your session earlier if, for example, you have a higher risk of early delivery or other complications that may develop later in pregnancy.
We can talk about the timeline for your specific situation to make sure we get the perfect timing for you.
HOW LONG DOES A MATERNITY PHOTO SESSION LAST?
The time I set aside for your maternity session will vary based on the location, and how you feel. My sessions are often 45 minutes to 1 hour, and sometimes that will take a little bit longer than we’ve planned for and that’s not a problem, I love to deliver a gallery full of beautiful maternity images.
We can move as fast or as slow as you need to be comfortable and enjoy your maternity session experience.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
I want you to feel beautiful and comfortable so it’s good to choose clothes that inspire you to feel your very best in your maternity pictures.
I really love to capture your gorgeous form so choosing outfits that accentuate your body is recommended.
Solid neutral colours work best and whichever makes you feel most like yourself is a good choice. I have some beautiful dresses in my maternity wardrobe that you can use for the session too.
Here’s a link to my general “what to wear” for you
CAN I BRING ANYTHING OR SUGGEST POSES?
Of course! I will always as if you have any special items you’d like included, for example the first shoes or something special that has been handed down through families.
For suggesting poses it really helps me if you send the poses you have seen, maybe create a collage board with the ideas so before the session I can be prepared and visual ideas are much easier to understand.
CAN FAMILY MEMBERS AND PETS COME TO THE SESSION
Absolutely.
I love to include all family members in a maternity photo shoot.
This can include partners, children, and the family cat or dog. I take into consideration who is coming to a session when planning the amount of time needed and selecting a location that would be suitable.
CAN I STILL DO A MATERNITY SESSION EVEN IF I AM ON BEDREST OR RESTRICTED ACTIVITES
Although bedrest and an activity restriction can limit many events during ones pregnancy, we can definitely still do a maternity session.
In this case I would recommend that the session occur at your home, and we would just take things slow, with minimal moving around your home.
It will include lots of snuggling photos on the couch or in the main bedroom, a relaxed and easy session with ease for you.
IF I CHOOSE MY HOME, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ROOM IS BEST TO USE?
All we need is a room with a good sized window that lets plenty of natural light in.
This is often most likely be the living room or the main bedroom. Both if you choose to!
You just need to open any curtains or pull up any blinds so that the room is as light as possible.
Also make sure the room is nice and warm if you want to expose your bump for the intimate shots.
DO YOU EDIT THE IMAGES
During your session, I will likely take around 100-200 photos. This consists of numerous angles of each pose and often very similar images, re-takes due to blinks/eyes opening, focusing on different areas and so on.
Using my creative discretion, I only delicately edit the very best images including removing unsightly blemishes, colour correcting, detail enhancing and creative development to create the final portrait.
The online gallery that you receive will have, depending on the newborn package you choose 20 or 25 minimum fully edited high resolution digital images for you to choose the selected amount included in the package.
DO YOU SHARE THE IMAGES ONLINE
It’s always a privilege to do so, and I do love to share the beautiful images of your baby and family but only with your permission.
With your permission I offer options on how I can use your images such as website, social, promotional, competitions/magazines.
HOW ELSE DO WE PREPARE FOR THE SESSION?
Have lots of time to prepare and get plenty of rest.
If you have the means, perhaps treat your self to a massage or relaxing bath.
Keep hydrated and have a light snack before the session to keep your energy levels up.
Leave everything else up to me.
