Q & A for your Family Session. Maternity Newborn and Family photographer Hamburg Claire Hambley

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY FAMILY SESSION?

Be certain not to book your session around your child’s nap or bedtime.

The best time for lighting is 1-2 hours before sunset and the same 1-2 hours after sunrise.

If this is a bad time for your children, we will talk about an alternative.

Please though, don’t show up to a photo shoot on an empty stomach.

If your dinner is normally planned for when the session will end, be sure to give everyone a healthy snack before the photo shoot.

Having 'hangry' children and low in energy parents makes it tricker to get the photos!

HOW LONG DOES A FAMILY PHOTO SESSION LAST?

The family sessions usually last around 60 minutes but sometimes can take a little longer up to 2 hours so please keep your time flexible for the session running longer.

WHAT IF SOME FAMILY MEMBERS DON’T COOPERATE OR LOOK AT THE CAMERA?

The best photographs are often the ones where everyone is engaged or interacting with each other.

Not every picture needs to have everyone looking at the camera and smiling at the same time.

If you are engaged as a family your eyes will be on your family members and your smile with be natural.

These are the images that you will cherish most because they show your families love and connection.

Feel free to pick up your children and throw them in the air.

Give your partner a kiss on the check.

Tell them how much you love them.

Have fun.

Laugh.

Giggle.

Make Jokes.

Kiss.

Snuggle.

Dance.

Play tickle monster.

Doing these things will allow the me to capture the emotion and true personalities of your family.

*NOTE TO PARENTS*

Constantly asking and demanding your young children to look at the camera to smile will only stress your children out, and will result in strained, unnatural and often unflattering and uncomfortable photographs.

Step back, and allow me to naturally interact and talk with your children.

This will result in natural, gorgeous smiles.

Help me to capture the true essence of your child’s personality by talking with them and bringing out those smiles naturally.

CAN WE BRING ACTIVITIES OR HAVE A THEME FOR OUR SESSION?

Definitely.

When families are engaged in doing something that they love together, I have the opportunity to take some beautiful and authentic photographs.

Some ideas are for example a picnic, playing games together such as piggy back races, a favourite board game, reading books together, bringing along some bubbles is always a fun idea.

DO YOU EDIT THE IMAGES

Yes.
During your session, I will likely take around 100-200 photos. This consists of numerous angles of each pose and often very similar images, re-takes due to blinks/eyes opening, focusing on different areas and so on.

Using my creative discretion, I only delicately edit the very best images including removing unsightly blemishes, colour correcting, detail enhancing and creative development to create the final portrait.

The online gallery that you receive will have, depending on the newborn package you choose 20 or 25 minimum fully edited high resolution digital images for you to choose the selected amount included in the package.

DO YOU SHARE THE IMAGES ONLINE

It’s always a privilege to do so, and I do love to share the beautiful images of your baby and family but only with your permission.

With your permission I offer options on how I can use your images such as website, social, promotional, competitions/magazines.
